What distraction is your country being fed currently?

In my country, they want to distract everyone by offering to change our national flag and are spending $28million on selecting some to choose from and then we can vote on 4 to go up against the existing one in another vote.
We have just been presented with the 40 options and they are very predictable, and very similar to one another.
Multiple levels here, such a waste of money for a start. Then secondly, this has been championed by our political leader, whose previous life long career was a money trader working for foreign companies. There is definite psychological game being played here as he sells off our nation and changes our flag.
Ironically, back in 1987, he was working as the buy/sell order guy for Andrew Krieger, and was the man that allowed Krieger to create the New Zealand currency crash which led to our 1987 stock crash. He has been quite good at forgetting dates and times and people he has worked for and claims he had left the company at the time Krieger did these things.. but there is fair evidence that he is lying. Through out his time in office here, he has managed to repeat this ability to forget he said this and that, and forget he knows particular people in much the same way.
Seems like he has made a career of being the demolition man of our nation.

I guess so. More so the little packaged release valves that are supplied for the public to freely vent on while there is 'real' news in the MSM. The distractions within the distractions. Every time there is something people 'could' focus on, there will be another story that people feel more comfortable letting out their frustrations on and argue amongst them selves over.

My country is underwater with what is likely to be the largest corruption scandal in its history. In Australia an elected official can lose their seat if they are found to have misappropriated even a couple of thousand dollars. Here several tens of millions an be misappropriated and an official will still feel secure with their seat.

That will be some time, many many people still nurture the idea of nationalism.

For example, why do Greeks care about Greece at all?

Nationalism is also government sanctioned discrimination based on political alliances. Fundamentally, it is the foundation for the age old "divide and conquer" strategy fueled by pride and a willingness to try and reduce those who are different to a subclass. Racism is just a shift from political orientation based criteria to genealogical or ethnical based criteria.

One of the biggest distractions is internet forums. Lot of blah, blah and no organization towards changing things. A circle jerk of opinions.
"To learn who rules over you simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize" -- Voltaire

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."-- Eleanor Roosevelt

Say no more, you've given yourself away as a Kiwi.

Though I would not resent any opportunity to symbolically distance myself from any monarchy...

Presidential elections here in the US right now. So that's our distraction. I was listening to a French radio station the other day and they were talking about it too. If I was French I'd be doubly embarrassed. It's bad enough to be distracted with a fraudulent election within your own country.

That's why the exchanges on many other forums makes me feel sick to my stomach, especially the way people parrot exactly the beliefs they are "supposed" to. There are a lot of forums out there that make me really appreciate forums like this one.

    Yes bsbray! :-)

I might just drop this here for those who haven't seen it, and as a pleasant reminder. An attempt to remove the first 5 letters of distraction.

Modwiz, if I hadn't come to the circle jerk tent, I wouldn't have found you. So maybe it's not all bad. I notice you post very graciously on other forums...

Whatever is distracting Shadowself, may it stop. For I wish to see more than just six degrees of separation.

IMO, BS politics is what distracts us from what's really going on behind the scenes and under the covers. Follow the money. It keeps disappearing. This whole campaign season will be a huge distraction.:fisty:
